In Bridget Dutta Portman’s play, The Mourner, Reema comes to Glade Family Funeral Home and Cemetery with an unusual request: she wants to bury the body of her cousin, the perpetrator of a gruesome terrorist attack that left dozens injured and several dead.
Eleanor, the funeral home owner, refuses, and the two women are forced into a struggle over the fate of the body in this contemporary play loosely based on the myth of Antigone.
The play was directed by Paul Stout, with dramaturgy by Jayne Wenger. I played the role of ‘Sana’ alongside a cast that included Amitis Rossoukh, Mary Lou Torre, James Gregory, and Tom Bleecker.
The Mourner ran at the Exit Theater in San Francisco through the month of April, 2018.
